Most of you now know that Abby had a BIG birthday. Her party was a lot of fun at Mom Mom's and Papa John's with lots of family there. She got lots of presents that she plays with everyday. She was a pro on her Cinderella bike!!! She also found out she was going to be a BIG sister. This was all on Sunday, February 8th.
Let's rewind a bit! Ben and I found out I was pregnant on Sunday, January 11th. We decided to wait to tell everyone at Abby's birthday party via a shirt that says "I'm going to be a big sister". I had not realized how far away that birthday party was. Ben and I told our work places so they would know for doctor's appointments and what not, but we couldn't tell anybody else. That was the hardest secret to keep, but I did it!!!! Anyway, I started spotting and the doctor wanted to do an ultrasound on Monday, Feb. 2nd. The ultrasound looked perfect, the baby was 18.1mm with a strong heartbeat, and quoting the doctor "there is only 1". So we had one more week till the party!!! The party came and went and was a huge success. Lots of fun and a beautiful day!! That brings us to Abby's actual birthday, February 10th. We had an ultrasound already scheduled and the doctor told us to keep it because she wanted to make sure things were going well. So, Ben took that day off with Abby to spend it with her on her birthday and after school, we all went to the doctor for an ultrasound.
We were in the room and having the ultrasound looking at the baby who had grown to 24.8mm with a strong heartbeat!!! Ben was explaining to Abby about the picture while I kept looking at the screen. I had noticed the doctor had moved away from the baby which disappeared from the screen. Then suddenly another image appeared. My heart skipped a beat, I looked at the dr who was giggling, and I asked if that is what I thought it was. And that point, Ben had looked up asking "What?" and the doctor said- "there's another baby in there"!!!!!!! This all happened so quickly. The second baby was 26.6mm (a little bigger but a great hider). I immediately looked at Ben to see how he was taking it- and we both just giggled the entire time!!!! Both babies looked good!! What else can you do? Abby didn't say much until we got in the car. The doctor said we were handling this very well, not to read anything on the internet about twins, and to enjoy the moment and come back in 2 weeks when we will discuss the logistics. In the car, I turned to Abby and told her I would definitely need her help. Her response was priceless, "There are 2 babies and 3 of us, we can do it". My baby girl who is so grown up!!!!! Needless to say, that evening we used a lot of minutes and made LOTS of phone calls. I think the more we say twins we thought it would sink in. Still really hasn't sunk in completely!!!!
That was Abby's BIG BIRTHDAY!!!
